Writing

Adding an entry

Tap + and write. If you change nothing else, the entry is saved for this moment. Tap the details button (the sliders icon) beside the time to pick another date or time, mark it as all day, or choose a color. Book, movie and travel entries also keep a title, a rating and, for travel, a country.

Why is a dot split into slices?

That is intended. Every dot is read like a clock face: when a dot holds several entries, each one colors the part of the dot from its own time onward. Two entries at :25 and :50 in the same hour fill 50/60 and 10/60 of that hour's dot.

Small points under an empty dot

An entry with a time that hasn't come yet is a plan. Plans show as small points under their dot instead of coloring it. When the time arrives, the plan becomes an entry and the dot fills in by itself.

Tapping dots

In Today, This week and This month, tap a dot to see or add what is in it. Swipe up to see the list for that day, week or month. In This year the dots are too small to aim at, so they don't open — use + to write for any day.

Deleting

Swipe an entry to the left, or touch and hold it. For a few seconds after deleting, an Undo button brings it back.

Widgets and lock screen

Widgets

Add a dotdot widget from the Home Screen or Lock Screen and choose a unit: today, this week, this month, this year, or life. Widgets redraw on the hour or at midnight, and when a plan's time arrives. If one looks stale, open the app once and it will refresh.

A wallpaper that changes every day

In dotdot, open Settings → Lock Screen Wallpaper to preview it or save today's image. To have it change on its own:

1. In the Shortcuts app, create an automation for a time of day (for example 12:01 AM, daily) set to run immediately.
2. Add the action Today's dotdot Wallpaper.
3. Add Set Wallpaper Photo, give it the image from step 2, and turn off Show Preview.
4. Run it once. From then on your lock screen updates itself.

The image is drawn on your iPhone; nothing is downloaded.

dotdot Pro

What is free and what is not

Writing, every dot view, plans, book, movie and travel entries, the widgets and the lock screen wallpaper are free, with no time limit and no ads. dotdot Pro is a single purchase that adds all eleven colors and any color you pick, stickers, and nine backgrounds.

Restoring a purchase

Open Settings → dotdot Pro and choose Restore purchase, signed in with the same Apple Account that bought it. This works on a new iPhone and after reinstalling.

One purchase, no subscription

Pro is a one-time, non-consumable purchase. Nothing recurs, and there is nothing else to buy. Family Sharing is supported, so members of your family group can use Pro too.

Refunds

Refunds are handled by Apple — visit reportaproblem.apple.com. If something is broken, write to us first; we would rather fix it.

Your entries

Everything you write stays on your iPhone and works fully offline. There is no account and no sync between devices. Your entries are included in your iPhone's own iCloud or computer backup, so restoring a backup to a new iPhone brings them along. Deleting the app deletes them.

Write to us with your device model, your iOS version, and what you expected to see. A screenshot is the fastest way for us to see what you see.

Privacy

dotdot collects nothing about you — no account, no analytics, no ads, no third-party code. The full statement is on the privacy page.
